Maria de Natividade was born in Angola  the province of Cunene.

She obtained a degree in Mathematics from Agostinho Neto University in 1997, the first degree in Mathematics awarded in independent Angola, as well as a Diploma in Advanced Studies in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics (Non-linear Approximation using Wavelets) from the Autonomous University of Madrid.

She is the Head of the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Agostinho Neto University, is an Associate Professor and co-ordinates the postgraduate programmes in her department.

She is a visiting lecturer at other higher education institutions, both in Portugal and abroad. She has supervised numerous undergraduate dissertations and master’s theses and has co-supervised doctoral theses in Mathematics Education and Mathematics. 

 Her area of research is Nonlinear Approximation with Wavelet Bases.

She is also member of the coordinating committee and professor of the regional doctoral program in Mathematics, in Cape Verde, the first in the PALOP region.

Currently she is also member of the African Mathematical Union (AMU) Executive Committee and the Secretary General of the AMU.
