Prof. Mahmoud Abdel-Aty

Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aty currently serves as Vice-President of the African Mathematical Union for North Africa, Dean of Bahrain Ahlia University, and President of the National Committee for Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, he holds the position of Vice-President of the Egyptian Mathematical Society.
Professor Abdel-Aty's prior leadership roles include serving as Vice-President of the African Academy of Sciences (from 2013 to 2020) and Dean of Research at Applied Science University in Bahrain. He earned his Ph.D. in Quantum Information from the renowned Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Germany in 1999. In recognition of his scholarly impact, he was awarded a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in 2007 and an Honorary Doctor of Science (H.DSc.) in 2024.
His research expertise encompasses artificial intelligence, quantum information, neural networks, and optical implementations of quantum systems—areas in which he is widely regarded as an authority. His scholarly output is substantial, comprising over 350 peer-reviewed papers, 19 book chapters, and four books, along with multiple patents, including four U.S. Patents.
Professor Abdel-Aty's contributions have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the Incentive State Award, State Award of Excellence, State Encouragement Award, the Qin-Jiu-Shao Prize (China), the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation Award (Jordan), and the Mohamed bin Rashed Prize (UAE), among others. Through his research, leadership, and mentorship, he continues to make significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of science and technology both regionally and internationally.
